Honomu’s is known for previously being a bustling sugar town. In the year 1876 the Reciprocity Treaty was agreed to by the former Kingdom of Hawaii and the government of America.
Now, however, the main attraction in the area and the reason why people come here is Akaka Falls. Honomu is home to this 422-foot (129 m) waterfall. Another well known attraction in Honomu is the two huge banyan trees south of the junction for Akaka Falls. When not visiting these two attractions you can visit art galleries, craft stores and eateries stationed in rows of little timber frame buildings.
